Vapor Blasting

Vapor Blasting in Chicago, Chicagoland, and Northern Illinois

Vapor blasting, sometimes called vapor abrasive blasting or wet abrasive blasting, serves many of the same benefits as sandblasting. Vapor blasting is a greener and more environmentally friendly method of renewing surfaces than sandblasting. Some of the differences are below:

Sandblasting Vapor blasting
High dust Low dust (92% dust reduction)
Large quantity of abrasives Small quantity of abrasives
Appropriate for open areas Appropriate for high-density areas
Standard, known method of blasting Newer, greener method of blasting

A main difference between vapor blasting and dry blasting, such as sandblasting or sodablasting, is that the blast media is dampened prior to hitting the surface. A primary advantage of vapor blasting over dry blasting is that it prevents and diminishes dust, which allows operators to work in a broad variety of environments with little to no preparation or cleanup costs. It results in a polished, cleaner surface without clinging dust or embedded particles.

Vapor abrasive blasting is a quick and effective process for removing unwanted surface corrosion and other corruptions. The renovation process by vapor blasting begins when contact is made. Once abrasive hits a surface, the particle usually bursts, which launches smaller particles into the air in dust form. This force can result in dry sparks charged with static electricity. The fine particles are isolated in water droplets, which ultimately prevents additional dust. As the water droplet disperses, the hydrostatic force blasts away surface coating, leaving a feathered edge around the perimeter for flawless recoatings.

Vapor blasting can be a phenomenal solution for a variety of applications including:

  • Industrial settings
  • Delicate surfaces
  • Outdoor or urban environments
  • Alongside other workers.

McCahill Painting has purchased and is operating the very latest technology Graco EcoQuip 2 Vapor Abrasive Blast Equipment. This is the latest, low-dust wet abrasive technology available. This equipment produces 92% less dust or airborne contamination than traditional sandblasting. Our compressor is a Tier 4 machine. This compressor is required in California and New York City because it is the most environmentally friendly.
