Keys to Successful Pool Refinishing:

Proper Preparation + Specialized Products + Expert Application

By their nature, swimming pools are demanding environments requiring durable, long-lasting finishes that can withstand excessive water and moisture conditions and nearly constant use.

What are the keys to exceptional durability and surface performance when repainting pools?

  • Diligent surface preparation
  • Specialized coating products applied properly by experienced technicians

Preparation is easily the most critical aspect of the pool painting process. At McCahill Painting, we draw on decades of coatings experience to carefully prepare pool surfaces for optimum paint adhesion. Prep can be a painstaking process, but we take no shortcuts. It’s our key to consistently providing customers with beautiful, long-lasting pool painting results. Preparation depends on pool condition, but rest assured we’ve seen it all and can provide the right methods to expertly prepare your pool surface for paint.

Once prep is done, it's essential that the right coating products are selected for the job and that they are applied exactly as intended by the coating manufacturer. Our technicians are highly trained in precision coating application and at testing and inspecting newly applied coatings to ensure they dry and cure as intended for maximum durability.

One-Stop Painting & restoration Services

Refresh your entire pool space from top to bottom

For a complete restoration of your pool facility or area, we provide painting and restoration of surrounding walls, ceilings, railings, fencing, doors, stairwells, architectural features, and more. Our expertise includes proper restoration and painting of all substrates including concrete, steel, metal, brick, stone, wood, Ipe decking, koroseal, drywall, and more.

From painting to power washing, abrasive blasting, and corrosion control, we can help you achieve a refreshed and cohesive appearance for your pool and surrounding environment.

Our Swimming Pool Painting & Restoration Process

1) SURFACE PREPARATION – The first step in pool prep is to restore the surface to a sound substrate, which may involve hand scraping, sanding, grinding or abrasive blasting to remove paint, rust, and other contaminants.

2) CLEANING – Once the surface is sound, we clean it thoroughly using biodegradable, environmentally safe detergents.

3) REPAIRS & PRIMING – Next, it’s time for repairs and priming. Every inch of the pool is examined, and any holes, cracks or deterioration areas are addressed. Holes and cracks are filled with appropriate products and, in metal pools, any rust spots are sealed with primer.

4) PRE-PAINT INSPECTION – We take one more careful square-foot by square-foot inspection of the pool to confirm we’ve addressed each and every repair and ensure the surface is ready for paint.

5) PAINTING & MARKINGS – Once preparation is complete, we apply a two-coat paint system typically consisting of a two-component epoxy pool paint. Our trained technicians skillfully apply the paint while strictly following all manufacturer application specifications. Once the main pool painting is complete, we apply any lane markers, stencils, or other owner-specified identification markings. Just as in preparation, we inspect all areas of the pool and paint application to ensure full coverage and adhesion.

6) CURE TIME – The pool must remain empty and untouched to allow the epoxy to cure for 7-10 days, depending on the epoxy manufacturer guidelines. After the cure period, the newly restored pool is ready to be filled and enjoyed.
