Case Study – The Royal Group
Workshop and Parts Room – Interior Painting
The Royal Group has been providing packaging products and services since 1922, so they understand the importance of experience. When they needed the workshops and offices of their Cicero, IL facility painted, they turned to the experience of McCahill Painting Company.
Following their initial meeting with the Royal Group’s project manager, the McCahill team began by cleaning and preparing the ceiling above the facility manager’s office. The entire area was scraped and hand-sanded to remove any contaminants, ensuring proper paint adhesion. Once the surface was ready, ICI / Devoe Unigrip4382 Modified Epoxy Egg-Shell Dryfall was applied, due to its bonding and adhesive qualities, as well as its resistance to environmental humidity.
To wash and prepare the concrete workshop walls, the McCahill team used Chemex RealEZ, an environmentally friendly industrial cleaner. A block-filler was then spray-applied and worked into the porous cinderblocks with a roller, to create a smooth surface upon which to apply paint. Using a block-filler primer also reduces instances of trapped dirt, making the surface easier to clean later on.
The preparation was completed with a thorough hand-tooling process. Each of the walls then received one finish coat of Sherwin Williams Water-Based Two Component Epoxy. During this process, the team used an industrial vacuum system to remove as much odor from the air as possible.
Some additional project elements that McCahill Painting Company was able to provide include:
- Preparing and repainting the upper mezzanine railing in Safety Yellow
- Preparing and repainting the sprinkler mains in Safety Red
- Repainting metal exit doors and providing vinyl numbering
White is the color that is commonly used in larger working environments such as warehouses. The reflection from the painted surfaces acts as a secondary light source for facilities and brightens the entire work area. When lighting is improved, it’s not unusual to see productivity increases and fewer worker errors. An added benefit is reduced energy consumption due to increased lighting efficiency.
The Royal Group was extremely pleased with the execution and final results of this project.
