What is sandblasting and how does it work?
Sandblasting is an extremely fast and effective dry abrasive blasting method where pressurized air is used to blast sand (also called silica) against a surface to completely remove old paint, corrosion, decay, dirt, and biological and atmospheric contamination. Often used to prepare surfaces for painting, sandblasting creates a rough surface profile that supports optimum paint adhesion and long-lasting results.
While the use of sand gave this blasting method its name, other abrasives are sometimes used in this process including glass beads, garnet, and walnut shells. Sandblasting is sometimes also called grit blasting, media blasting, or abrasive blasting.
Sandblasting Applications
Sandblasting can rapidly clean and restore a variety of surfaces including steel, concrete, metal, and brick.
A versatile abrasive blasting method, sandblasting is used to restore steel beams, concrete pools, brick walls, precast concrete walls, parking lots, tanks and silos, and more.
