Painting Metal Equipment Using Electrostatic Paint

What is electrostatic painting and where is it used?

Electrostatic painting is a highly effective and efficient method of applying even and very durable coatings to metal and metallic surfaces. The metallic surface elicits a negative charge, while the paint elicits a positive charge due to added electricity. Because of the interaction between the negative charge on the metal and the positive charge on the paint, the paint is propelled toward the metal and the chemical bond between the two is increased. This powerful chemical bond causes the paint to adhere strongly to the surface and the result is an extremely durable paint application.

Electrostatic painting is most often applied through a spraying process, wherein the positive electric charge is added to the paint. This process can be a bit noisier than standard painting, but results in an extremely even, strong, and resilient finish. Electrostatic painting is more efficient than standard painting because the strong attraction of paint to metal eliminates overspray and wasted paint.
